TRACES OF A GENERATION

Ghost galerie continues its exploration of the New York art scene of the 1980s through a selection of works reflecting the diversity and singularity of this generation. Beyond the context in which they emerged, these practices shifted the boundaries between language, abstraction, figuration and urban culture, contributing to a lasting transformation of the contemporary art landscape. Freed from the categories that initially defined them, they developed distinct visual languages in which gesture, sign, colour and the construction of the image occupy a central place.
Traces of a Generation is concerned less with defining a movement than with what remains of it. The exhibition considers these works from the perspective of the present, through the forms, attitudes and languages they helped bring into being and whose influence continues to resonate throughout contemporary art. Presented in Marseille and Paris, the exhibition places this generation within the broader history of contemporary art and examines how a scene born from a specific context produced forms capable of transcending their time and place.

Ghost galerie, true to its positioning, presents a new chapter in its exploration of revolutionary artistic dynamics with “Paradigm and Disruption: The Creative Pulse of the 80’s.” Through this group show, the exhibition highlights the diversity of practices and voices that redefined contemporary art at the heart of 1980s New York. In a contrasting New York, where cold concrete meets explosions of color and ideas, young artists draw the avant-garde lines of an artistic renewal. Their insatiable fervor, palpable in every piece, defies conventions and reflects a world in flux. This exhibition is not merely a journey into the past but an immersion into the raw and disruptive energy of a visionary youth, driven by the pursuit of unrestrained art. This “collective of artists,” from varied disciplines – painting, sculpture, installation, and performance – transcends aesthetic and cultural boundaries to offer a polyphonic vision of this vibrant period.
From the influence of graffiti and street culture to the rise of artistic activism in response to sociopolitical crises and the emergence of new technologies, each work reflects a spirit of rebellion and an unrelenting quest for renewal. ENTWINED VISIONS

In the ever-shifting realm of contemporary art, where imagination brushes against reality, artworks emerge like riddles revealed through the artist’s gaze. The summer exhibition “Entwined Visions” presents three masterful voices: Richard Hambleton, Futura 2000, and Invader. Each carves a path, crafting a unique interpretation of the world, yet together they weave a landscape of striking intensity, where the invisible meets the palpable. The works surprise with their variety. Hambleton conjures shadowy figures that seem to graze the tangible; Invader, through his mosaics, reimagines city codes to insert a fresh perspective, while Futura 2000 unleashes vibrant abstract swirls of color, granting full freedom to movement. Three distinct languages, three unique gestures, but a shared vision to imbue creation with a singular vitality, offering beauty where it’s least expected. The entwining extends beyond the exhibition’s concept, forming a silent connection that weaves between the works. Hambleton brushes the walls, almost spectral; Invader slips into the architecture, leaving signs and fragments of play. Futura 2000, meanwhile, makes color explode like a pulse, echoing shadows and pixels, bringing a rhythm that constantly reinvents itself.
