Né en 1940

Henry Chalfant est un photographe et vidéaste américain né en 1940 et spécialisé dans la photo du graffiti et de la culture hip-hop de manière générale. Il a réalisé de nombreux clichés historiques de trains ou de murs. En véritable détective à l'affût de la plus belle prise de vue, Henry Chalfant a pu capturer à tout jamais des oeuvres éphémères avant qu’elles ne soient détruites ou recouvertes. Il a notamment photographié le travail de Lee Quinones sur deux wagons de métro dans le Bronx en 1977, c’est à ce moment-là que son intérêt pour la subculture s’est accru. Ses photos sont désormais exposées dans les collections permanentes du Metropolitan Museum of Art à New York et au Carnegie Institute de Pittsburgh.
