AONE

(Anthony Eden Clark - American)

1964 - 2001

Photo de profil de Aone.
Anthony Clark, also known as A-One, was an American artist, born in 1964 in New York. Active since the middle of the 1970’s, he is considered one of the pioneers of New York Graffiti. Proud member of the TDS (The Death Squad), known for pushing the boundaries of Wild Style and the legibility of his letters to the point of abstraction, he was also part of the group named TMK (Tag Master Killers) consisting namely of Rammellzee, Toxic, Kool Koor and even Delta 2. He was particularly inspired by afro-american contemporary culture, much like his friend Jean-Michel Basquiat. His impulsive, and very personal aesthetic peaked the interest of collectors and professionals in the art world which led him to show his work in the historic and highly acclaimed Post-Graffiti exhibition curated by Dolores Neuman, at the Sidney Janis gallery, New York, in December of 1983, as well as at the Venice Biennale in 1984, where he was the youngest participant. A-One passed away at the young age of 37, in Paris in 2001. His work was largely presented in museum shows giving homage to post-graffiti since the beginning of the 1980’s and more recently in 2020, alongside artists who made up Basquiat’s inner circle such as Rammellzee, Kool Koor, Lady Pink, Lee Quinones, or even Futura 2000 in the exhibition Writing the Future : Basquiat and the Hip-Hop Generation at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.
