Lee Quinones est né à Porto Rico en 1960 et a grandi dans le Lower East Side de New York, il est considéré comme l'artiste le plus influent issu du mouvement artistique du métro de la ville.. Il est une figure célèbre dans le monde de l'art contemporain et dans les cercles de la culture populaire, reproduisant fidèlement des oeuvres au contenu socio-politique provocateur et à la composition complexe. Il devient populaire avec les graffitis qu'il a réalisés sur les voitures du métro de New York dans les années 1970 et 1980. Au milieu des années 1980, il a commencé à travailler sur toile et à exposer ses oeuvres dans des galeries. Il participe notamment au film Wild Style de 1982, réalisé par Charlie Ahearn, aux côtés de Lady Pink, qui sera un témoignage fictionnel évocateur de la culture Hip Hop du New York des années 1980.
