Anthony Eden Clark – Américain
1964 – 2001
Né sous le ciel électrique de New York, en 1964, Anthony Clark, alias A-One, était de ceux qui portent l’encre dans les veines. Adolescent aux yeux de braise, il trouvait son royaume sur les parois de la ville, où il inscrivait sa marque en lettres de feu. Dans les années 70, les wagons de métro devenaient ses toiles, ses rêves, ses révoltes. Il y déversait l’âme des quartiers, le cri d’une génération, une poésie rugueuse qui vibrait de mille couleurs.
Fils de l’Afrique, il puisait dans ses racines une force primitive, une énergie brute qu’il mêlait à l’héritage américain. Son art était un hymne à l’unité, un pont jeté entre les cultures. Et quelle complicité avec ses compagnons de création ! Ensemble, ils inventaient une nouvelle mythologie urbaine, où les dieux étaient faits de graffitis et les légendes naissaient à chaque jet de bombe.
A-One était un esprit libre, un oiseau qui refusait les cages. Il n’était pas de ceux qui se contentent d’un seul horizon. Après avoir marqué les rues de Manhattan, il vola vers d’autres cieux, rejoignant les « Tag Master Killers », une bande de créateurs aussi sauvages que géniaux.
La reconnaissance vint vite. Les galeries s’ouvrirent à lui, les critiques l’encensèrent. Mais A-One ne se laissa jamais enfermer dans un cadre. Il était un enfant de la rue, et la rue, c’était sa liberté. Il s’installa à Paris, cette ville aux mille visages, où il continua de peindre, de vivre, de rêver.
Puis, un jour de novembre 2001, le destin frappa. A seulement trente-sept ans, A-One s’éteignait, emporté par une vague soudaine. Mais son œuvre, elle, restait. Gravée sur les murs, tatouée dans les mémoires, elle était devenue une part de l’histoire de l’art, un cri éternel qui résonne encore aujourd’hui
