Born in 1961

Photo de profil de Crash.
John “Crash” Matos was born in the Bronx, New York in 1961 and is one of the pioneers of the Graffiti movement. Known for his three dimensional lettering, Crash made his first steps with spray paint alongside Daze at the early age of 15, and would later join the ranks of Dondi White and Zephyr. By transitioning from the streets to the studio, Crash notably collaborated with the Sidney Janis Gallery in 1983 for the Post-Graffiti exhibition, affirming himself as one of the major artists of the movement. Highly influenced by Pop art and its leading names, the likes of Andy Warhol, James Rosenquist, Roy Lichtensten or Jasper Johns, Crash managed to integrate the most prestigious international collections, at the MoMa or the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.
