GHOST GALERIE

AONE

Anthony Eden Clark, American
1964 – 2001
Born under the electric sky of New York in 1964, Anthony Clark, known as A-One, was one of those who carried ink in his veins. A fiery-eyed teenager, he found his kingdom on the city’s walls, where he marked his presence with letters of flame. In the 70s, subway cars became his canvases, his dreams, his rebellion. He poured into them the soul of the neighborhoods, the cry of a generation, a raw poetry vibrating with a thousand colors. A son of Africa, he drew strength from his roots, a raw energy that he blended with his American heritage. His art was an anthem of unity, a bridge between cultures. And what camaraderie he shared with his creative companions! Together, they invented a new urban mythology, where the gods were made of graffiti, and legends were born with every spray. A-One was a free spirit, a bird who refused cages. He was not one to settle for a single horizon. After leaving his mark on Manhattan’s streets, he flew to other skies, joining the “Tag Master Killers,” a group of creators as wild as they were brilliant. Recognition came quickly. Galleries opened their doors to him, and critics praised him. But A-One was never one to be confined by a frame. He was a child of the streets, and the streets were his freedom. He settled in Paris, that city of a thousand faces, where he continued to paint, live, and dream. Then, one November day in 2001, fate struck. At only thirty-seven, A-One passed away, taken by a sudden wave. But his work remained. Etched on walls, tattooed in memories, it had become a part of art history, an eternal cry that still resonates today.
